Dear Community,
After such a tough year, we have had so much to celebrate this week. We have finally had a return of the whole student body, with Years 8 & 9 joining back in with the buzz and positivity of school life on campus. We have seen a significant decline in new COVID case numbers with a number of “donut days” reinforcing our optimism that the second wave has been successfully suppressed. We have had a relaxation of lockdown rules and a return to greater normalcy for many in our school community. We have had a “chafifa” (change-over) between the 5780 and 5781 Hanhagot (student leadership groups).
We also celebrate the incredible resilience, courage and fortitude of our Year 12s who made the most of their last week of learning at school before SWOTVAC. The final year of schooling for the Class of 2020 has been one that was very different to what anyone would have anticipated or hoped for. However, it would be wrong to characterise the year as negative when there ha
It was a very emotional day today at the Senior School as our Year 12 students spent their last official day on campus. In celebration of all they have achieved, they enjoyed a wonderful program of activities as a final send off.
Friendship books were created, with messages from each of the graduating students to each other. A sports match involving the Year 12 students versus staff followed by a BBQ lunch were just some of the memories created for students.
Our traditional end of year Tea Party was held yesterday for the VCE Revolutions class of 2020, to celebrate their final history class, with a small morning tea in a safe outdoor setting. Unfortunately, a couple of students were unable to join the group in person but, at least one was able to join us via Google Meet.
To the accompaniment of relevant revolutionary music, from John Lennon’s ‘Revolution’ to the lively ‘Rasputin’, students enjoyed some symbolic revolutionary fare and quizzed each other on many revolutionary facts.
Gan Teena joined in a live African drumming session this week, run by Jess and Simo from Rhythm Unites.
The children were treated to an introduction on the traditional African drum, Djembe and other African instruments and learned a traditional African rhythm.
Seeing how music making has been such a big part of our learning program, it was wonderful learning opportunity for the children to understand that there is much more involved than just hitting on a drum to make music. The children focused their attention and effort throughout the session, following instructions on when to start and stop, and trying to keep the rhythm and beat.
Please join us online for a parent information webinar, tackling the complex issue of body image and children. Thursday 19 November, 7.30 - 8.30pm. Please note: this webinar is for parents only (students are not encouraged to participate). With so many confusing messages around weight and shape and with many adults struggling with their own body image, it can be difficult for parents to know how best to support their child as they move through adolescence.
We invite you to a virtual experience for our 2020 Creative Arts Expo which will be available from Tuesday 27 October to Tuesday 3 November. It showcases our Years 9 to 12 student work in the areas of Art, Design, Drama and Media. This is a free event but please register your interest here: https://events.humanitix.com/creative-arts-expo . A link to this virtual event will be sent a few days prior to the opening. King David students will be given access via their myKDS pages and so do not need to register. Please encourage family and friends to register so they too can enjoy the wonderful creative expressions of our Senior students.
