Senior School Drama Students Attend Critically Acclaimed Play

Senior School Drama Students Attend Critically Acclaimed Play

On Thursday 15th February, our VCE Theatre Studies and Year 10 Drama students attended a performance of the ‘The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time’ presented by the UK’s National Theatre.

This touring production of the highly acclaimed play based on Mark Hadden’s best-selling novel was presented at The Arts Centre’s Playhouse to a packed audience. Our students marveled at the highly stylized direction, ensemble acting and engaging narrative that portrayed the perspective of 15 year old autistic protagonist, Christopher Boone.

The immersive theatrical experience had our students in awe of the sophisticated and creative use of stagecraft that was applied to interpret Simon Stephen’s stage adaptation of the novel.

VCE Theatre Studies students will analyze the production on their end of year exam, so it is fitting that the performance that they witnessed will live in their memories and hearts for a long time to come.

KDS Alumnus wins Gold at the 2018 Track National Championships

2017 Graduate Riley Hart (second from right) has won gold in the elite men's team pursuit at the 2018 Track National Championships.

Edging out The South Australian favourites by two-tenths of a second, the Victorian team broke a 10 year gold medal drought and joined the "sub-4 minute club" with a time of 3:58.829.

We wish Riley a huge congratulations on such an impressive win, as he now turns his attention to his post-VCE travels.

Israeli Inventions in Year Two

As this year is Israel’s 70th birthday, the Year Two students have learned all about different Israeli inventions and innovations. Israel is known as the start up nation. The students presented their Israeli inventions at Friday’s creative assembly. Did you know that the Taga bike is a bike that allows parents to ride behind their child and also turn it into a stroller? Did you know that the ReWalk invention allows paraplegics to stand upright and walk and climb stairs?

Happy inventing!

Insights - The Crown of a Good Name

Insights - The Crown of a Good Name

Dear Community,

In Pirkei Avot, the tractate of Jewish ethical teachings, there is a particular section which I referenced with students at the start of this school year. In it Rabbi Shimon explains that “there are three crowns - the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood and the crown of sovereignty - but the crown of good name surmounts them all.”

At the opening of the school year, I challenged our students to think about what it means to have a good name. I asked them to consider the mental image that their friends, their teachers, their parents and their classmates’ parents have of them when they hear their name. Perhaps even more importantly, I asked them to reflect on their own self-image when they think of what their name represents.

Does their name conjure the image of someone with integrity whose actions are in line with their beliefs? Does it reflect someone who is caring, inclusive and kind? Does it stand for an individual who is trustworthy, honest and re
